{"id":380,"date":"2023-10-12T07:02:06","date_gmt":"2023-10-12T07:02:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/yogtatvam.in\/dev\/blog\/?p=380"},"modified":"2025-05-30T09:07:07","modified_gmt":"2025-05-30T09:07:07","slug":"diabetes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/yogtatvah.com\/blog\/diabetes\/","title":{"rendered":"Diabetes :  Naturopathic Understanding Diabetes Mellitus."},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"nhsuk-grid-row\">\n<div class=\"nhsuk-grid-column-two-thirds\">\n<h5><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Diabetes is a condition that causes a person&#8217;s blood sugar level to become too high.<\/span><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are 2 main types of diabetes:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhs.uk\/conditions\/type-1-diabetes\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">type 1 diabetes<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u2013 a lifelong condition where the body&#8217;s immune system attacks and destroys the cells that produce insulin.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhs.uk\/conditions\/type-2-diabetes\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">type 2 diabetes<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u2013 where the body does not produce enough insulin, or the body&#8217;s cells do not react to insulin properly,<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Type 2 diabetes is far more common than type 1. In the UK, over 90% of all adults with diabetes have type 2.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">High blood sugar that develops during pregnancy is known as <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhs.uk\/conditions\/gestational-diabetes\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">gestational diabetes<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. It usually goes away after giving birth.<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Non-diabetic hyperglycemia (pre-diabetes)<\/span><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Many people have blood sugar levels above the normal range, but not high enough to be diagnosed as having diabetes. This is known as non-diabetic hyperglycaemia, or pre-diabetes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">People with non-diabetic hyperglycaemia are at greater risk of developing type 2 diabetes, but the risk can be reduced through lifestyle changes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you have non-diabetic hyperglycaemia, you may be eligible for the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.england.nhs.uk\/diabetes\/diabetes-prevention\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">NHS Diabetes Prevention Programme<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. This programme helps people make lasting lifestyle changes and has been shown to help prevent type 2 diabetes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">People with non-diabetic hyperglycaemia are also recommended to take a blood test every year to monitor their blood sugar levels.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It&#8217;s very important for diabetes to be diagnosed as early as possible because it&#8217;s likely to get worse if left untreated and can cause long-term health problems.<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When to see a doctor?<\/span><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Visit your doctor as soon as possible if you experience the main symptoms of diabetes, which include:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">feeling very <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhs.uk\/conditions\/thirst\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">thirsty<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">peeing more frequently than usual, particularly at night.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">feeling very tired.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">weight loss and loss of muscle bulk.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">itching around the penis or vagina, or frequent episodes of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhs.uk\/conditions\/thrush-in-men-and-women\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">thrush.<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">blurred vision.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Type 1 diabetes can develop quickly over weeks or even days.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Weight loss is common in people with type 1 diabetes when it first develops and before it&#8217;s treated, but it&#8217;s less common in people with type 2 diabetes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Many people have type 2 diabetes for years without realising because the early symptoms tend to be general, or there are no symptoms at all.<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Causes of diabetes<\/span><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The amount of sugar in the blood is controlled by a hormone called insulin, which is produced by the pancreas (a gland behind the stomach).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When food is digested and enters your bloodstream, insulin moves glucose out of the blood and into cells, where it&#8217;s broken down to produce energy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, if you have diabetes, your body is unable to break down glucose into energy.
